A personal approach, backed by professional experience
Hello, I'm Julia, the independent social worker behind Sussex LPA & Capacity Support.
I provide friendly, professional assistance with Lasting Power of Attorney applications, independent Mental Capacity Assessments and COP3 reports across Sussex and surrounding areas.
I understand that these matters can sometimes feel unfamiliar or overwhelming, particularly when you're making important decisions for yourself or supporting someone close to you.
My aim is to make the process clearer, more manageable and less daunting, with time to listen, explain and answer your questions.
About me ...
Professional Experience You Can Trust
I qualified as a social worker in 2008 and have spent my career working in adult social care before moving into independent practice in 2022.
My experience includes supporting older people, adults with learning disabilities and people experiencing mental health difficulties.
For approximately 14 years, I have also been a qualified Best Interests Assessor, undertaking specialist work involving the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and the rights of people who may have difficulty making certain decisions.
As an independent practitioner since 2022 I have focused on undertaking independent safeguarding reviews for local authorities and continue to work as an independent Best Interest Assessor.
This experience has given me a strong understanding of the importance of listening to individuals, respecting their wishes and supporting them to make their own decisions wherever possible.
It also means I recognise that decisions about future care, finances and personal welfare are rarely just about paperwork. They can be deeply personal and deserve careful, sensitive consideration.
I have been a qualified social worker since 2008 and gained my Best Interests Assessor (BIA) qualification in 2011. My professional background has given me a strong understanding of the importance of protecting individual rights, respecting personal choices and supporting people through sensitive and sometimes complex decisions.
Alongside my professional experience, I have developed my knowledge through further academic study in advanced social work and law.
My Qualifications
BA (Hons) Social Work (2008)
Best Interests Assessor (BIA) Award (2011)
MSc Advanced Social Work (2016)
Postgraduate Diploma (PGDip) in Law (2021)
Why This Matters for You
Making a Lasting Power of Attorney is an important step in planning for the future. It involves thinking carefully about who you trust to make decisions on your behalf if you become unable to make certain decisions yourself.
My background in social work, mental capacity and law helps me bring a thoughtful, person-centred approach to supporting clients through the LPA process.
I understand that conversations about future care, finances and decision-making can feel daunting. My aim is to make the process as clear, comfortable and straightforward as possible, taking the time to explain each stage and answer your questions.
Equally, when questions arise about someone's mental capacity, it's essential that their rights are protected and that any assessment is carried out fairly, sensitively and without assumptions.
I established Sussex LPA & Capacity Support to offer a personal, independent service that brings together practical assistance and specialist Mental Capacity Act experience.
I want clients to feel that they have someone knowledgeable and approachable to guide them through the process, without unnecessary jargon or pressure.
Above all, I believe that everyone deserves to have their wishes heard, their choices respected and their future plans approached with dignity and care.
